The Alternative-Rock Pop-Rock act Editors, comprised of vocalist + guitarist & pianist Tom Smith, guitarist + synthesizer player Chris Urbanowicz, bassist Russell Leetch and drummer Ed Lay, first came together in 2003. Having founded the band at University in Stafford, ENGLAND, on graduation the four relocated to Birmingham as it was both the nearest big city and the home of their management.
Editors signed with the independent label Kitchenware in late 2004 and
released their first single, "Bullets", in January 2005.
The group's debut album, "The Back Room", arrived in July of that same year cracking the top 20 of the U.K. Official chart, but continued to find fans throughout the autumn as the band interspersed a growing interest in Europe with a constant live schedule in England. A support tour through mainland Europe and the U.K. with Franz Ferdinand at the close of 2005 saw the culmination of an amazing year for Editors.
2006 has continued to bring good news for the band, "Munich" in January gave the band their first U.K. top 10 single and their first album stormed to the top of the national sales chart falling just one position short of #1.
Editors returned in June 2007 with its second LP "An End Has A Start"; the first single, "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors", peaked at #6 on the U.K. Top 40 chart while the album rose to #1 on the British Pop chart and debuted on the American Billboard Top 200 list at #117. The title-track was the second single off the CD, it topped out at #27 in their native England.
Released in October 2009, "In This Light And On This Evening", marked the start of a new chapter for Editors, the band came together in London for the recording sessions with super producer Mark 'Flood' Ellis at the start of 2009 with a determination to push their sound into wholly new territory, they've by and large ditched the guitars in favor of synthesizers. The album, which featured the U.K. top 40 hit single "Papillon", shot to #1 in Great Britain.
In the spring of 2012 Editors announced that they had parted ways with Chris Urbanowicz.
The band's new record is titled "The Weight of Your Love" and is due out July 1, 2013. It is the group's first album featuring new members Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams. The set includes the single "A Ton Of Love".
