The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion Biography

Playing an intoxicating mix of contemporary Noise-Punk and Industrial-Rock with traditional Blues and Garage-Rock, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion formed in 1990 in New York City, New York USA, fronted by vocalist + guitarist Jon Spencer who teamed up with guitarist Judah Bauer and drummer Russell Simins.

The trio released their self-titled debut album in 1992 to litte attention and soon followed "Crypt Style" which eventually helped land them deal with Matador Records.

In May of 1993 appeared "Extra Width" which garnered more critical acclaim and the single/video "Afro" received national airplay on Alternative stations.

Over one and a half years later The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion continued to tear up the indie-Rock landscape with fever and a visceral, untouchable vision of Rock 'n' Roll issuing their fourth album, "Orange"; the opening tune, "Bellbottoms", became one of their definitive numbers and a fan favourite.

Another two years passed before the New York City-based unconventional band, twin-guitar drums no bass line-up, released their first charting album. "Now I Got Worry" reached the #121 spot on The Billboard Top 200 chart and produced a minor U.K. hit with "Wail".

The threesome resurfaced in October of 1996 with the release of "Acme", the record stuttered at #180 on the U.S. Albums chart, although the singles "Talk About The Blues" and "Calvin" confirmed that JSBX was exceptionally shrewd in crafting albums that pack real sonic force.
One year later they decided to release a compilation of outtakes and remixes: "Xtra-Acme USA".

Spencer and company issued "Plastic Fang", in the spring of 2002; it rose to #14 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart generating two excellent singles, "Sweet N Sour" and "She Said", which both managed to crack the British chart, as well as a minor hit, "Shakin' Rock 'N' Roll Tonight".

In September of 2004 the trio decided to drop the prefix 'Jon Spencer' from the band's name and put out their official eighth album, "Damage"; the disc contained two U.K. charting singles: "Burn It Off" and "Crunchy".

On September 18, 2012, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion returns with their long-awaited new studio record, "Meat And Bone". The New York City collective is offering a preview of the LP with a free digital single entitled "Black Mold".
