Less Than Jake Biography
The Ska-Punk outfit Less Than Jake was formed in Gainesville, Florida USA, in 1992, originally as a trio of vocalist + guitarist Chris Demakes, bassist Shaun and drummer Vinnie Fiorello. When Shaun became the group's roadie, he was replaced by Roger Manganelli and the band's line-up expanded with the addition trombonist Buddy 'Goldfinger' Schaub, alto saxophone player Jessica Mills and baritone saxophone player Aaron.
Their debut full-length disc, "Pezcore", was released in 1994, followed a year later by another indie-album, "Losers, Kings, And Things We Don't Understand".
The band amassed over 30 singles and EPs, in their first four years of existence, including "Greased" which featured eight cover versions of songs from the "Grease" soundtrack.
In 1996, Less Than Jake signed with Capitol Records who released "Losing Streak" that November, the disc entered the top 20 of Billboard Magazine's Heatseekers Albums chart.
Two years later, with Demakes, Manganelli, Fiorello, Goldfinger and Derron Nuhfer as baritone-sax player, while Jessica Mills had left, the group released, "Hello Rockview". It reached the #80 position on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and included "History Of A Boring Town" which cracked the top 40 of The Modern Rock Tracks; another single, "She's Gonna Break Soon", became a top 40 hit in Great Britain.
Less Than Jake issued "Borders & Boundaries" in fall 2000 via Fat Wreck Chords, returning to its indie roots; the album, the first to feature new saxophonist Peter 'JR' Wasilewski, hit #103 on The Billboard 200.
Two and a half years laters, with "Anthem" the band rose to #45 in the United States, their best chart-placing to date; the album included the Modern Rock top 40 hit single track, "The Science Of Selling Yourself Short".
Less Than Jake returned in May 2006 with "In With The Out Crowd"; it reached the #78 spot on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart but the lead single, "Overrated (Everything Is)", failed to pick up national airplay.
The Punk-Pop stalwarts' next outing, "GNV FLA", was released in June 2008 and went to #61 on The Billboard 200.
Nearly a year in the works, the ninth album from Less Than Jake, "See The Light", the band's first proper full-length in over five years, was released in November 2013.
