The Naked And Famous Biography
The modern Electro-Pop band The Naked And Famous, named after a line from a Tricky song, was formed in 2008 in Auckland, NEW ZEALAND, around the creative partnership of guitarist + singer & composer Thom Powers and vocalist + lyricist Alisa Xayalith.
That year they released two EPs and expanded their line-up by recruiting keyboardist Aaron Short, bassist David Beadle and drummer Jesse Wood.
Their single "Young Blood" became the first #1 debut on the New Zealand Singles chart for three years as well as the first kiwi song to do so since the early '90s. The band's debut album, "Passive Me Aggressive You", soon followed, shooting to the top of the chart in September 2010.
The band released its debut album in the U.S. in March 2011 via Universal/Republic Records; "Young Blood" hit #9 on The Alternative Songs list and the follow-up single, "Punching In A Dream", reached the #18 position on the same chart.
In September 2013 The Naked And Famous put out their sophomore album, "In Rolling Waves", which quickly catapulted into the top 5 in their native New Zealand while in U.S. the disc reached #48 on The Billboard 200 and its main single, "Hearts Like Ours" hit #26 on The Alternative Songs chart.
