The Aternative-Rock outfit Pepper, comprised of vocalist + guitarist Kaleo Wassman, bassist Bret Bollinger and drummer Yesod Williams formed in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii USA, in 1997. Two years later the trio decamped from Kona to Los Angeles, where they began playing local clubs.
Combining Reggae and Rock with elements of Ska and Pop-Punk, the group's first official release, "Give'n It", recorded in the only studio that existed in Kona, was issued in the spring of 2000 on the indie label Volcom. The next year would be even better as the band landed a spot on the Warped Tour.
In March of 2002 Pepper released their sophomore effort, "Kona Town",
which contained the single "Give It Up" -- AKA 'Dirty Hot Sex'
-- the song received recurrent airplay on alt-Rock stations, cracking
the top 40 of the Billboard's Modern Rock chart three years later.
Concentrating on live performances, the trio continued to tour throughout 2003 and into 2004 which included dates with 311, appearances at the annual Bob Marley Birthday celebration, San Diego's premiere Festival "Street Scene", some scattered headline club dates and a complete U.S. tour with Slightly Stoopid.
Their third LP, "In With The Old", climbed into the top 20 of the Billboard Magazine's Independent Albums chart upon its March 2004 release.
Following up on the 2004 Modern Rock radio success of "Give It Up", in October 2006 Pepper returned with "No Shame"; lending a hand to the Southern California sound of "No Shame", Nick Hexum of 311, Tony Kanal formerly of No Doubt and Butthole Surfers' Paul Leary, all produced tracks for the album which reached the #96 position on The Billboard 200. The lead single, "No Control", became a sizeable radio hit rocketing to #19 on The Hot Modern Rock chart.
In 2008 the Hawaiian reggae-rockers made the rounds through Europe twice alongside Flogging Molly in the spring and Less Than Jake in the fall. They spent their summer of that year celebrating the July release of "Pink Crustaceans And Good Vibrations", which peaked at #83 on The Billboard 200 and hit #11 on the U.S. Top Independent Albums charts.
After spending the early months of 2010 writing and recording new music, a single titled "Wake Up", arrived in time for the summer. It was later included on a 4-song EP, "Stitches", which reached #40 on The Top Independent Albums chart.
Pepper is back with a new single. The track is titled "FKARND" and will be off their upcoming self-titled release, schedule to hit stores July 16, 2013, via Law Records.
