The Academy Is... Biography
Formed in Chicago, Illinois USA, by lead singer William Beckett and guitarist Mike Carden the Alternative-Rock band The Academy Is... also included Tom Conrad as second guitar + backing vocalist, Adam Siska on bass and Andy Mrotek on drums.
Since Beckett and Carden first came together in 2002, the band have paved
their way with lightening speed. After adding Siska on bass and a second
guitarist and drummer, the group headed into the studio and recorded an
EP for Chicago label LLR Records; it caught the attention of Fueled By
Ramen which immediately signed the young band and put them to work, recording
their full-length debut.
In 2004 The Academy Is... underwent a line-up change and set out on the road with bands like Fall Out Boy, Something Corporate, Less Than Jake, Midtown, Matchbook Romance among others.
The band's first album, "Almost Here", was released in February 2005 reaching #7 on The Billboard Top Heatseekers chart.
The Academy Is... issued their sophomore album, "Santi", in April 2007 via Atlantic Records; the disc peaked at #32 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart generating a Modern Rock minor hit with the CD's first single: "We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands".
In August 2008, the group released "Fast Times At Barrington High", the set gave them their career best chart position with a peak of #17 on The Billboard 200. However, the first single, "About A Girl", received little airplay on mainstream Pop/Alternative radio.
In the fall of 2011 The Academy Is... officially called it quits.
