Comprised of vocalist + guitarist Michael Poulsen, lead guitarist Franz Gottschalk, bassist Anders Kjølholm and drummer Jon Larsen, the Alternative-Metal troop Volbeat formed in Copenhagen, DENMARK, in the fall of 2001.
Combining Heavy-Metal with Rockabilly and Punk the group steadily increased their fan base with their unique blend and style of music and uncompromising stage shows. In September 2005 Volbeat put out its debut album "The Strength/The Sound/The Songs"; this disc drew critical praise from the press, achieved the gold sales status in their home country and became the first Danish heavy-Rock release in over ten years to break the national top 20.
Two years later followed "Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil";
the Volbeat's sophomore album shot to #1 on the Danish Sales chart and
was supported on the road with headline gigs as well as opening shows
for such Metal stalwarts as Metallica
Franz Gottschalk was fired after the recording of this album and was promptly replaced with new lead guitarist Thomas Bredahl.
In August 2008 "Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood" arrived in stores making the top position of the Danish and Finnish charts. The next year the group toured U.S. with symphonic metallers Nightwish.
Volbeat issued its fourth album, "Beyond Hell Above Heaven",
in September 2010 going straight to #1 in Denmark, Finland and Sweden
and into the top 10 in several other European countries; it was also the band's first LP that landed in the U.S. Billboard Top 200 chart reaching #161. Among the highlights
are numbers such as the highly emotional single "Fallen", which
Michael Poulsen has devoted to his deceased father, this single eventually crested at #27 on The Rock Songs list. It set the stage for the two subsequent singles, "Heaven Nor Hell" and "A Warrior's Call", that would bring them atop the U.S. Active Rock chart.
Shortly thereafter they scored another Hot Mainstream Rock #1 hit with "Still Counting", a single taken from 2008's "Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood".
The next studio album from the Denmark rockers, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies", was released in April 2013 and went on to top the charts in almost every northern European territory while in America hit #9 in U.S. and #1 in Canada. "Cape Of Our Hero" was the first official single to be released from disc however, it was only released in their native country; but both the subsequent singles, "The Hangman's Body Count" and "Lola Montez", debuted atop the U.S. Mainstream Rock Songs chart.
