Warpaint is an all-girl quartet from Los Angeles, California USA. The
band was jumpstarted in 2004 thanks to bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg and
her sister, actress Shannyn Sossamon on drums; the line-up also included
vocalists + guitarists Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman. They weaved intricate
guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post-Punk rhythms into gorgeous,
sprawling songs that skirt the line between the soundscapes of psychedelia
and intimacy of Folk and Rock's primal heaviness.
When Shannyn Sossamon left the fold, the group continued to perform with David Orlando and finally enlisted the help of drummer Stella Mozgawa.
In early 2009, they self-released an EP, "Exquisite Corpse", which created a healthy buzz around the Indie-Rock L.A. scene. By September 2009, Manimal Vinyl reissued it on CD and vinyl, complete with a new bonus track. Mixed by John Frusciante of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the EP successfully captured the band's sonic textures and live playful dynamism.
Warpaint delivered their debut full-length album, "The Fool", for Rough Trade Records in October 2010; it included the single "Undertow".
The quartet's sophomore album followed in January 2014.
