Chrissie Hynde Biography
Singer + guitarist & songwriter, Chrissie Hynde was born on September 7, 1951, in Akron, Ohio USA. She attended Kent State University where she formed her first band. During the '70s she moved to London, where she worked briefly as a music critic and in 1978 she founded The Pretenders, one of the most enduring and significant bands to emerge from the Punk-Rock New Wave scene.
Hynde's long and impressive career includes nine albums with The Pretenders and countless collaborations with other artists.
Throughout 1980 The Pretenders became a major stadium attraction in the States, it was in America that Chrissie Hynde met and fell in love with Ray Davies, lead singer of The Kinks. Together they had a daughter in 1983.
In May 1984, following a whirlwind affair, Hynde married Jim Kerr of Simple Minds and had another daughter.
In 2010 Hynde and Welsh singer + songwriter JP Jones, collaborated to create JP, Chrissie & The Fairground Boys Biography.
Chrissie Hynde is set to release her debut solo album, "Stockholm" on June 9, 2014. It includes the single "Dark Sunglasses".
