Lykke Li Biography
Lykke Li was born Li Lykke Zachrisson on March 18, 1986, in Ystad, Skåne,
SWEDEN. She grew up with artistic parents, her mother is a photographer
and her father is a Reggae musician. After a few years in Stockholm the
family moved first from the city to the country and then, selling everything
they own, to Portugal, where they buy land and build a house in small
village in the mountains. As the years tick by the family relocated to
Lisbon, then back to Sweden.
At 19-years-old, the hopeful musician crossed the Atlantic and made New York her place of residence. Mixing elements of indie alt-Rock and modern Electro-Pop, she recorded an EP in 2007 putting it on MySpace, where word was beginning to spread and songs were being hungrily devoured by bloggers.
After signing with LL Recordings, Lykke Li issued "Youth Novels" in early 2008, an indie album produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John. It peaked at #3 on the Swedish chart and in May the album came out in the United States.
February 2011 saw the release of "Wounded Rhymes", a worldwide successful album packed full of pounding, voodoo drums, sparkling guitar lines, woozy keyboards, love unrequited, hope reignited and her own very powerful voice. The disc hit the top 3 in several European countries, climbed into the top 20 in Canada and inched into the top 40 of the U.S. Billboard 200 while the rollicking single, "Get Some", cracked the top 40 of The Alternative Songs chart with a peak of #31.
Lykke Li will released a new album, "I Never Learn", on May 5, 2014 via Atlantic. The Swedish songstress is stating that it is the final part of an album trilogy which began with 2008's "Youth Novels".
