Owl City Biography

Adam Young, the creative force behind the Electro-Rock project Owl City, grew up in the Minnesota, USA, town, with roughly twenty-two thousand inhabitants, called Owatonna. He picked up his first guitar in junior high school and later learned the basics on keyboards and synths.

Back in June of 2007, at the age of 21 Adam Young put a self-released CD up on MySpace. Word of mouth began to spread for Young's music, with demands coming from various parts of the country for an album.

"Maybe I'm Dreaming", released in March of 2008, was Owl City's full-length debut. The album has garnered great critical praise and is a clear representation of Owl City's progression as an artist. Adam Young has become a phenomenon on MySpace with over 6 million profile views and over 25 million plays, which is outstanding in such a short span of time. The disc ended up peaking at #16 on the Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart.

His sophomore release, "Ocean Eyes", arrived in July 2009. Filled with whimsical melodies and blissful beats, the disc topped the Billboard Rock, Alternative and Dance/Electronic charts and was certified platinum in the U.S. after spending over a year on The Billboard 200 chart with a peak at #8. The album spawned the astonishing worldwide hit single "Fireflies", which rose to #1 in 24 countries including the States, Australia and U.K. and sold more than four million downloads. Its eye-popping success has made Owl City an international phenomenon, shifting nearly 12 million tracks around the globe, selling out headlining shows in the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. "Vanilla Twilight", the second single, reached the #72 position The Billboard Hot 100.

Owl City's third offering "All Things Bright And Beautiful" was released in May 2011 and quickly ascended into the the top 10 of The Billboard 200. "Alligator Sky" was the first single from the album, the digital version features rapper Shawn Chrystopher.

A bit over a year later arrived "The Midsummer Station".
