Thievery Corporation Biography

The origin of Thievery Corporation can be traced back to the summer of 1995 when Rob Garza and Eric Hilton met at the now-infamous Eighteenth Street Lounge club in Washington, D.C. USA.

The pair began develop a distinctive new genre in electronic music blending Trip-Hop and Downtempo with Dub, Bossa Nova and Jazz; in early 1997 was released the first album, "Sounds From The Thievery Hi-Fi", which collected their first four singles.

"The Mirror Conspiracy" followed three years later, it contained the seminal international hit, "Lebanese Blonde".

Assembling a compilation of Brazilian Pop-tunes as well as Acid-Jazz tracks, in January 2001 Thievery Corporation released its third full-length disc, "Sounds From The Verve Hi-Fi"; the disc cracked the top 3 of the Billboard Magazine's Top Jazz Albums list.

Nearly two years later Garza and Hilton delivered their proper third album, "The Richest Man In Babylon", which hit #1 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers and peaked at #9 on the Top Independent Albums charts.
June 2004 saw the release of another mix-album, "The Outernational Sound", which debuted at #20 on Billboard's Top Independent list.

Thievery Corporation returned in mid-2005 with "The Cosmic Game", a chock full of the wide-ranging spectrum of sounds: Rock, Chill Out, future-bossa, Dub as well as high profile collaborations with former Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, The Flaming Lips and David Byrne. The first radio single off the CD was "Revolution Solution", an intriguing blend of Thievery Corporation's groove sensibilities and Perry Farrell's distinct vocal energy. "The Cosmic Game" became the duo's first album to enter The Billboard Top 200 chart reaching #94.

Released in September 2008 their socio-political defiant album titled "Radio Retaliation", rose to #35 on The Billboard 200.

In June 2011 the Electronic music innovators released their next full-length disc. Despite its pointed title, "Culture Of Fear", was not quite as politically minded as the outfit's previous studio record. It reached the #52 position on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.
