Uncle Kracker Biography

Uncle Kracker is a one-man soulful Rap-Rock California-based outfit. Matt Shafer, his real name, was born on June 6, 1974, in Mount Clemens, Michigan USA. In the early '90s, he began performing as a DJ + Turntablist with Kid Rock.

"Double Wide", Uncle Kracker's debut album, came out in the summer of 2000; it peaked at #7 on The Billboard Top 200 chart and achieved double-platinum status, highlighted by the smash single "Follow Me" which climbed into the top 5 of The Billboard Hot 100.

His solid sophomore set, "No Stranger To Shame", was issued two years later; the disc reached the #43 position on the U.S. Albums chart spawning two singles: "In A Little While" gained massive airplay on adult contemporary radio peaking at #4 on The Adult Top 40 chart and "Drift Away" became his second smash hit peaking at #9 on The Billboard Hot 100.

In June 2004, the Michigan mauler, released "Seventy Two & Sunny" that demonstrated Uncle Kracker's growth as an artist, showcasing his knack for writing undeniably catchy melodies that combine elements of Country, Pop and down-home Soul. The album debuted at #39 on The Billboard 200 while the first single, "Rescue", grabbed a #20 spot on The Adult Top 40 chart.

Over five years passed between his 2004's effort and its follow-up "Happy Hour". Released in September 2009 the 12-song set crested at #38 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and the lead single, "Smile", peaked at #31 on The Billboard Hot 100 and rose to #3 on The Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks.

Uncle Kracker issued a new album, "Happy Hour", in November 2012 via Sugar Hill Records. It reached #16 on the Top Independent Albums list.
